Dog neck protection - a unique development of Vartoviy K9

This bulletproof vest with neck protection for dogs is the only one of its kind in the world. It was developed by the Ukrainian brand Vartoviy K9 and is protected by two patents.

Why neck protection is critical

A service dog’s neck is the most vulnerable area during combat operations, assault missions, and humanitarian demining operations. It contains:

• Carotid artery—bleeding from it is fatal within seconds;
• Trachea — injury makes breathing impossible;
• Cervical spine—damage leads to complete paralysis.

Classic body armor for service dogs (Ray Allen, K9 Storm, Julius-K9) protects only the torso and chest. The neck remains completely exposed. Vartoviy K9 is the first and only manufacturer in the world to have solved this problem.

How our protection works

The body armor is equipped with a modular bulletproof collar made of DSTU 8782:2018-class UHMWPE panels. Construction:

• Does not restrict the dog’s natural head movement—the dog can turn, tilt, and lift its head;
• Does not constrict the airways—the collar rests on the shoulders, not the throat;
• Quick to remove—the rip-away system releases in 2 seconds in an emergency;
• Compatible with electronic collars and ID tags.

Two patents — legal proof

The Vartoviy K9 design is registered as two separate inventions in the Ukrainian Patent Register:

1. Patent No. 1 — design of a protective collar for a service dog;
2. Patent No. 2 — a system for attaching the collar to the main vest with a quick-release function.

This means that no competitor in the world can legally produce a similar design without a license from our brand.

Medical rationale

The design was developed in collaboration with veterinarians and canine anatomists. The collar weighs less than 380 g; this weight is added to the vest’s total weight and does not alter the animal’s center of gravity. Testing was conducted in partnership with the Step Up rehabilitation center for service dogs returning to work after injuries.
